Classification of Data Center

Classification-of-Data-CenterNow in this modern age online business is a well known word for all. Everyone know about online business and it’s related words such as web hosting, Data center etc. A data center is a facility used to house computer systems and united components, such as telecommunications and storage systems. It usually includes services like dedicated server hosting, abundant or backup power supplies, abundant data communications connections, environmental controls (e.g., air conditioning, fire suppression) and security devices.

Data center classification

In case of data center classification There are four types of data center. Those are Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4.

Tier 1 Data Centers: Single non-redundant distribution path serving the IT equipment, Non-redundant capacity components, Basic site infrastructure guaranteeing 99.671% availability require for Tier 1 data center. They may not have a raised floor. Indian web hosting service providers may need to shut down their infrastructure on an annual basis for repair and maintenance. Maximum annual downtime in a tier 1 datacenter may be 28.8 hours.

Tier 2 Data Centers: composed of a single path for power and cooling distribution, with redundant components, providing 99.741% availability. This is more robust as compared to tier 1 data center. It is composed of a single path for power and cooling distribution. It can accommodate redundant components unlike tier 1 data center.

Tier 3 Data Centers: composed of multiple active power and cooling distribution paths, but only one path active, has redundant components, and is concurrently maintainable, providing 99.982% availability. Tier 3 data centers have more than one path for power and cooling distribution. However, one path is active in it and the other one is passive. It can accommodate redundant components.

Tier 4 Data Centers: composed of multiple active power and cooling distribution paths, has redundant components, and is fault tolerant, providing 99.995% availability. This is the harshest category of data center. It is designed to host large business websites. It can accommodate redundant components. It has the capacity to tolerate faults. It has multiple paths for power and cooling distribution. The best part about tier 4 Indian web hosting data centers is that it hardly shuts down for repair or maintenance.

Green Data Centers : There are one more term related to data center, that is green data center. In a easy way green data center is a repository for the storage, management, and dissemination of data in which the mechanical, lighting, electrical and computer systems are designed for maximum energy efficiency and minimum environmental impact. Some of the features are,Minimizing the footprints of the buildings. The use of low-emission building materials, carpets and paints. Sustainable landscaping. Waste recycling. Installation of catalytic converters on backup generators. The use of alternative energy technologies such as photovoltaics, heat pumps, and evaporative cooling. The use of hybrid or electric company vehicles.
